Are you fixated on how many followers and likes you have on social media? Did you know Instagram has taken away the “like” visibility option in Australia? And that it may do the same in the U.S.? We need to focus more on converting the followers we have into loyal customers. While it may feel validating to see thousands of likes on your posts, it doesn’t mean you will make money from these likes. After all, aren’t we trying to grow our business online and not competing in a popularity contest?
It is said that people can make a 6-figure income (or more) on 1,000 loyal followers. That is all you need! Stop wasting money on buying likes or followers that can get you banned from Instagram. Start focusing on adding value to your audience so they will share your content and will want to be a customer.
You may recall that I suggested using IG stickers, IGTV and IG Stories to increase engagement but may feel you need help with valuable content. Here are some tips on how to do just that.
Each day I make it a goal to post content that allows my audience to relate to me, make them smile or laugh, inspire them, give them a useful business tip or invite to download or sign up for my current freebie.
When my audience is able to step into my shoes and understand that we both have similar struggles, it makes it easier for them to know, like and trust me. They begin to realize that I have been through the same struggles or still encounter struggles. After all, I am human too. I like to mix in a tip when I can as well as a poll to increase engagement. For example, the other day I talked about when we as moms rescue our kids by bringing their homework they forgot at home to school, we don’t teach them responsibility. It also throws off our day if we have to go to the school to save them. I gave the tip by not rescuing them, they teach them responsibility then took a poll to ask if they ever had that experience. While you may not need to incorporate a poll, you can perhaps make this relatable post funny. Get creative and have fun with it!
Making your audience laugh by sharing a funny gif or a blooper from your life will create an emotional connection. It is often said that people won’t remember what you said but rather how you made them feel. If they know that they can trust you to make them smile, they will want to look at your content more often. These days the world is a very stressful place so if you can be a good part of someone’s day, they will become loyal to you and what you have to offer. They will even be more than happy to share your content with their friends.
You can also take a serious stance when you want to pull emotion from your audience. We all could use an encouraging word. I like to start my morning with something positive. Since I am already on my phone reading a positive affirmation, I like to share it with my audience. It takes a matter of seconds to share something uplifting with my followers. It is more impactful when I do a quick video clip of me encouraging them rather than sharing a meme. Memes can oftentimes become white noise. So don’t forget to mix up those inspirational messages.
People are spending upwards of 2 hours each day on social media. The content they are consuming range from entertainment to educational. Don’t miss the boat on educating your audience with a tip on something that fits your brand. They will appreciate the free information you are giving them. If the information is valuable, they will want more and begin to see you as an expert in your industry. While you may not always want to give everything away for free, letting your followers know what kind of problems you solve with your business will allow them to get familiar with your expertise. I suggest going through the exercise of identifying the problem you solve and creating scenarios that people can relate to. Save these scenarios in your notes app on your phone so you can easily copy and paste into content captions.
If you are offering a freebie, you should know what kind of problem you are trying to solve. To get people to sign up for your freebie, you have to talk about it daily. Use the above tactics to talk about your freebie so it is more of sharing than selling. (No one wants to be sold to.) Change up the time of day that you are posting about your product in case your target audience misses one of the other posts. Just like you, people have unexpected things come up in their lives so they aren’t always looking on social media at the same time every day
