Your email list is your business' lifeline.

When New York Time’s best sellers like Chalene Johnson or Rachel Hollis wanted to write their first books, they were advised to grow their email list. If you don’t already have this mentality then you need to change it--GROWING YOUR EMAIL LIST IS ESSENTIAL TO GROWING A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS. People often underestimate the value of capturing their potential customer’s email addresses. They use the excuse that they don’t want to be spammy or that people won’t open their emails. When you target the RIGHT people and ADD VALUE to their lives, they will WANT to hear from you and hear from you often.

If you still don’t believe me, let me give you some stats from Chalene Johnson’s online course--Marketing Impact Academy:

In 2015, for every 1 dollar spent on email marketing there was a return of 44 dollars and 25 cents for businesses. 91% of us check our emails every single day. 66% of us have made a purchase based on an email that we received this month. In 2015, there was a 10% increase in the amount consumers were spending in relationship to email marketing. Customers who buy from us via email, are likely to spend more than 138% than those who are introduced to us via social media. 74% of us say that we prefer email marketing versus any other type of direct promotion.”

If that doesn’t convince you to start taking emails and using them, then I don’t know what else to say. However, if I still have you and you want to learn more, keep on reading.

Now that you realize the need to grow your email list, you are probably wondering how to do this. Here are great ways to reach people, connect and start collecting emails. At first, you may start collecting emails to people who are not really your target audience but eventually you will learn how to qualify them.

Local networking events are a great place to collect cards and start qualifying people in person. As you have an in-person conversation, you can quickly decide if this person is someone you want to market to. Most likely you will exchange cards containing their email address and phone number. Choose one night per week or month that you can sit, sip some wine and enter all of these contacts into your CRM. Be sure to also have a spreadsheet that you add them to in case you switch CRM systems.

Set up landing pages. Simple landing pages with minimal distractions is a simple way to passively collect emails. Let’s say you are offering a coupon for a service, post the landing page URL on your Facebook business page. Explain to your audience that when they click on the link, they will enter their email address and a coupon will be emailed to them. People love discounts and other perks. This also works well if the product you offer is information. In order for the customer to receive your free download, they must enter their email.

Create an online store and provide products that complement your business. This option can not only provide you with two additional sources of income--product sales and affiliate marketing, but it can also provide a platform for you to have a blog in which you show off your expertise. You may be thinking that you don’t have time to run an online store but using a provider like Shopify can make it easy. You can also keep your store simple by only offering a few products until you can manage more. Be sure to subscribe to our updates for more information on how to set up your Shopify store.

Set up a private Facebook group or Meetup and ask for their email as part of their member request. When you add value to the content within your group, members will naturally want their friends to join. The group will spread by word of mouth and you will have an automated system to collect emails. There is nothing I love more than my business growing as I sleep.

In addition to taking action to grow your email list, I suggest creating a goal of how many emails you want to capture each week, month and year. Keep your eye on the prize because once you grow your email list and build your audience’s trust with periodic, valuable emails, they will be more willing to buy from you.

Remember, grow your list, add value to your subscribers and have a call to action on all of your outgoing emails.
